From our hotel we walked a few minutes before we looked out for a Tuk Tuk at Sukhumvit street. As there was so much traffic it took us almost an hour to get to the famous Khao San Road. However, I did not mind the long Tuk Tuk ride at all as it gave me the chance to dive into the lively city and inhale the atmosphere of busy evening Bangkok.
As soon as we arrived we went into a restaurant because we were both very hungry and we enjoyed our first Thai dinner.
Then we walked over to Khao San Road and enjoyed strolling along the famous and lively street. In the - especially among travellers - wellknown book 'The Beach' the Khao San Road is described as 'the center of the backpacking universe' and this describes it pretty much. On the 1 km road one can find hostels, cheap guest houses, travel agencies, tatoo shops, massage parlours, retaurants and bars. It is also the place to go if you want to explore how a crispy cockroach or a skorpion on a spit taste and if you want to get high by inhaling laughing gas. It is interesting that waterpipe smoking is prohibited in Thailand, however people openly inhale and offer you laughing gas in the streets and in the bars.
After we left the noisy and very interesting street we were ready for quite a different programm: we took a taxi and went over to the Red Sky Bar at Lebua. This bar, which is situated at the 56th floor of a building, is one of the most famous rooftop bars in the world. Also part of the movie 'Hangover' was filmed there. The bar is absolutely stunning and offers an amazing view. The prices, however, are stunning as well, for 2 cocktails I paid 56 €. But altogether an extraordinary experience which one should not miss when visiting Bangkok.
We were not the only ones of our crew who had the same idea this evening and by chance we met two other flight attendants. Together we enjoyed our cocktails and the amazing view and atmosphere and then shared a taxi back to our hotel where we had one more drink at the Mariott's rooftop bar before we called it a day.
