Desert Camp Sossusvlei - Namib Desert

From Kalahari Anib, our tour continued through the rugged desert landscape of the Namib. We drove through the gravel roads towards Desert Camp. The scenery was incredible: the oldest desert in the world stretches along the Namibian coast for a length of 1,300 km (north-south) and a width of about 120 km (east-west). The Kuiseb River, which flows from Windhoek to Walvis Bay and rarely carries water, divides the Namib into two very different parts. To the north, it is characterized by rugged cliffs of various colors and canyons. To the south, there is a sand sea with long reddish dunes that are constantly shifting. The Desert Camp was quite basic, and we had to deal with some hardships such as power outages at 40 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the two days with the pool and bar, as well as two wonderful evenings with "Braain" and amazing sunsets. Early in the morning, we set off to Dead Vlei. The salt pan of Sossusvlei is located in the middle of the Namib-Naukluft Park. The dune landscape of Vlei is more than 300 km long and 140 km wide. On the way through the national park, a pair of ostriches crossed our path, and we were able to observe their mating ritual, it was incredible. Arriving at the Vlei, we struggled to climb the still accessible huge sand dunes at 7.00 am to get a fantastic view of Dead Vlei. On our way back, about 2 hours later, the sand dunes were barely walkable due to the heat. Another successful excursion on the Röschmi tour. On December 23rd, we continued to Rostock-Ritz.
