On 02.01. I not only separated from the people in the house, but also from Jana. She is now in Invercargill, in the very south of the North Island, working there as an au pair for 5 months. In the 3 months we traveled together, we experienced a lot and covered a total of over 5800 km!! Over 4800 km with our car that I unfortunately had to leave behind.
I stayed in Christchurch until 6.01. and worked there at Lenore's place, a single mother with a one and a half year old daughter. My tasks were supposed to be mainly gardening and household chores, but because Lenore was a bit stressed, I had to take care of the little one a bit and had the pleasure of changing a diaper for the first time in my life. 😂
Since 06.01. I'm now in Akaroa and started working here the day before yesterday. I found the job on Backpackerboard three weeks ago, a website with a lot of job advertisements, applied and got accepted. I'm here in a holiday park (which is actually a campsite, but also has units and cabins for rent) and I'm supposed to clean and work at the reception. The people are all really nice so far, but I have to get used to the work first. On my first day, I only cleaned for 3 hours (2 units, kitchen, a little bathroom). Marina, a 27-year-old German who also works here, explained and showed me everything calmly. In the afternoon, I spent 3 hours in the office and Marina actually wanted to introduce me to the booking system and show me how everything works, but there was so much going on, someone new came into the office every second or the phone rang, she had to quickly handle everything and didn't have time to really teach me anything. Yesterday, on my second day of work, luckily it was a bit less busy and I could do more already. Still, everything seems quite overwhelming and I can't imagine learning all of this, but the others said they felt the same way at the beginning, so we'll see. I'm still not sure if I will really stay here, but I think by the end of this week I will know. Akaroa and the surrounding area are definitely beautiful, and as far as the view is concerned, I can't complain either ;) I'm staying here in a caravan with a small porch for which I only have to pay a small rent.
I actually want to upload photos of the campsite, but the internet doesn't seem to be working well right now, so those will come later.
