1st Week - Arrival in a New World

On Monday morning, my plane landed in Addis Ababa just before sunrise. After buying a SIM card and briefly unloading my luggage at my new home, I made my way across the city to the Addis Guzo Wheelchair Center. What impressed me the most were the scaffolding made of eucalyptus wood. I would never dare to climb on a wooden pole at such a dizzying height, but for others, it's their workplace. Some of them even work without closed-toe shoes. I haven't seen any helmets yet...
I will be working at Addis Guzo for the next three months. All the staff members are friendly and welcoming, creating a friendly atmosphere. I received a warm welcome and immediately felt comfortable, even though I was still very tired from the journey on the first day. I have already settled in well. The work is exciting, educational, with some intense moments, and there is often laughter. We have delicious meals at lunchtime, and so far, I have eaten Injera at least once a day, which tastes excellent.
I also like staying at Barbara's house. The house is spacious, cozy, and has a large garden. Other housemates are a dog and a cat. Most of the time, there is a guard at home, which initially felt unusual to me, but I have already gotten used to it.

merci für deine flotten Zeilen, die damit verbundenen Impressionen sowie die coolen Bilder. Du lässt bei mir schöne Erinnerungen an meine Besuche in Addis aufkommen und ich hoffe, dass du weiterhin bei bester Gesundheit, viel Spannendes, Schönes und wertvolle Herausforderungen erlebst und solche in den kommenden Wochen in Äthiopien auf dich warten. Es ist ja bestimmt vieles Neu für dich und so kann ich mir vorstellen, dass es auch Zeit braucht, um all die vielen eindrücke und Farbtupfer zu verarbeiten. Wie läufts mit dem Amharischen?
Der Alltag bei Addis Guzo ist bestimmt herausfordernd und physiomässig wirst du ganz anders gefordert, als bei uns... aber dies ist es ja, was du suchst, das dich begeistert und neugierig macht. Ich wünsche dir viele bereichernde Farbtupfer - geniess die gute Küche und lass dich möglichst oft anstecken vom Lachen der Menschen vor Ort und nicht von den Maden-Darm-Käfern ;-)!
