And then the big trip to my favorite weekend (so far) began!
We left on Thursday to have more time on site, because La Fortuna has so much to offer.
It is a small town at the foot of the grand
ARENAL Volcano. In addition, you can do a variety of jungle expeditions, guided tours to coffee farms or waterfalls.
We took an Uber there and then checked into the great hostel. It has a large pool, a bar, and even a pool table.
In the evening we had a delicious dinner and then went to bed relatively early, because we booked a big tour for Friday morning.
With a young guide, we went into the jungle and then to about 800 meters in height, the highest viewpoint overlooking the great volcano. Since it is currently the rainy season in Costa Rica, the hike was super wet, but we saw so many amazing animals!
A toucan, a snake, different spiders…
The view of the volcano was rather sparse, as it was very cloudy.
Then we had a Casado for lunch and afterwards went to the famous hot springs. These prove that the volcano is still active as the hot magma warms the riverbed to about 30°.
That was truly unique.
In the evening we went out for a few beers, which was also a lot of fun:)
Saturday morning we then went to the big waterfall, where you can swim in the riverbed. However, it was super cold and a bit wavy, so we switched to the calmer riverbed next door.
On the way back to the hostel, our Uber driver stopped and pointed to a tree, and there actually hung a full-grown sloth in the tree! I was so excited:))
In the afternoon we visited a smaller waterfall, where you can swing into the water with a rope.
I was initially hesitant but then overcame my fear!
We had a great last evening, and then on Sunday afternoon, we took the travel bus for 3000 colones (about five euros) back to San José in 4 hours.
The bus ride was really tiring, it was very crowded and bumpy.
On Sunday evening, we met another new girl, she is from Scotland, and I will spend my next three weeks with her:)
I’ll be in touch again soon,
Hugs
