On 04.09.2021, we set off at 5:00 in the morning. We, that is Dirk Schemuth and myself. I had met Dirk nearly 2 years ago at Oktoberfest at our BMW dealer in Krefeld. At that time, I had just bought my first motorcycle, a BMW F750GS, but I was still getting my license. Dirk arrived at the dealer's parking lot on his 'Fat Boy', the exact same model with the same color, parked his bike and I approached him directly, asking how satisfied he was. After a few minutes, another biker with the same bike joined us, our dear Klaus. We chatted, talked, laughed, and quickly created an F750GS WhatsApp group for exchanging information and going on rides together.
Riding a motorcycle was a long-awaited dream for me, and after a very nice tour with my loved one in the summer of 2019, there were two very nice bikes sitting there after a cozy coffee with cake in Nikolaus Kloster, and I thought to myself, 'Oh, it would be cool to be on the bike now.' The next day, I signed up for driving school, and the initial step for the first big tour was taken.
After successfully passing the driving test on November 9, 2019, almost every free minute was spent on the bike, and after some day trips through the Lower Rhine region, Eifel, Sauerland, the Bergisches Land, and a two-day trip to the Moselle, it was clear that we had to go to the Alps at some point.
We watched and admired travel reports by various motorcycle riders on YouTube. In particular, I was fascinated by the videos of Thomas, the Motorcycle Bummler.
During our hiking vacation in July 2021 in Filzmoos, Austria, the decision grew to undertake an Alpine tour by motorcycle in September. While still on vacation, I contacted Dirk, coordinated the new vacation dates with colleagues, and got approval from the boss. It is scheduled to start on September 4, 2021, for one week.
Inspired by Thomas, the Motorcycle Bummler, our route for the Alpine Tour 2020 was almost set, and Dirk spent many hours adjusting it and preparing it for our navigation systems.
For the first big tour, countless equipment and accessories such as vacuum laundry bags, tire repair kits, chain spray, motorcycle detergent, mobile phone holders, a new larger tank bag, and much more were purchased.
Well-equipped and with way too much luggage, we set off early on the morning of September 4th. Onto the highway to the south, stopping somewhere at McDonald's for lunch, looking for accommodations for the next two nights, and then shortly after crossing the border, getting off the highway and the first mountains came into view.
The first beer at our accommodation, the Jugendgästehaus Gosauschmied, may have hissed, and the mixed grill plate at the Gasthof Gosauschmied for dinner was well-deserved.
