The evening look at the weather app made me set the alarm for just after four o'clock. It has been a long time since the last sunrise and the forecasts were perfect. The app was right, a dreamy sunrise in this morning calm, only a light wind and the sound of the sea, wonderful.
After another little nap, a morning run followed on the endlessly long sandy beach. Bright blue sky and despite low temperatures, I sweated due to the warm July sun. I would have loved to swim in the sea, but scattered jellyfish (in addition to ear jellyfish, in my assessment also fire jellyfish) prevented me from doing so.
After a coffee on the beach, the journey continued. Denmark expert Sylvie had already provided me with tips and soon we were on the Marguerite Route. This route is 3500 km long and leads along scenic roads, past sights and natural highlights. The route is marked by a sign with a daisy on a brown background.
We passed fields, flowering meadows, small villages, very idyllic. Compared to Norway, the country is flat as a pancake, I researched quickly: Denmark's highest elevation is 170.38 meters...! This is hard to believe, especially for me as a Swiss.
Soon we arrived at Rubjerg Knude lighthouse, a very famous lighthouse that was moved 70 meters inland in autumn 2019 for 5 million Danish kroner. The calculations in 2017 indicated that without relocation, it would have collapsed down the cliff this year at the latest.
Once at the top of the lighthouse, the announced rain started. That didn't stop me from having a lot of fun in the huge sand dune. The decision to visit a campsite with showers was also made.
The search for a place with a washing machine and dryer led us to Henrik in Lonstrup, an extremely friendly, attentive and helpful caretaker. It rained in the afternoon and there was no improvement in sight for the next morning. Besides doing laundry and taking extensive showers, it was time to read a little, sort thoughts and think about the further route.
