Aarhus

Byatangajwe: 12.07.2023

The bad weather front was still above us in the morning. We decided to leave the place right after waking up before the ground gets soft and we might get stuck. (This time the impulse didn't come from me, but it was definitely in my mind.)

A short time later we were fed and ready to travel, destination Aarhus. After Della slowly recovered from his cold, I started to have a sore throat. When one gets sick in such a confined space, it becomes quite difficult for the other person, I was aware of that, but still hoped to avoid it.

Just before Aarhus, the roads were flooded; the sea salt from the last few days on Louise should be gone, quite sure also on the underbody, as we crossed huge puddles on the streets.

In Aarhus itself, we looked for a free camper parking space, which is free for 24 hours and close to the city center. Since the cold was becoming more and more noticeable, I used the next rainy hours to sleep before heading to the city in the late afternoon.

From the first moment, the city captivated us: quarters with modern architecture, the Latin Quarter with charming half-timbered houses with boutiques, galleries, cafes and pubs, car-free promenades, many sports facilities, street food stalls everywhere and in the middle of the city a huge roof top.

The decision was quickly made to eat out for the second time on our trip. In a backyard, we discovered a cozy restaurant. The menus were only available in Danish, but the waiter tried his best to provide explanations in English. Della played it safe and ordered mussels, I decided on something with beef, salad, beetroot, radishes, and a raw egg. I got off when he explained the raw egg, but he assured me that it was a favorite dish of the Danes. Both dishes tasted excellent. Many thanks to Rudi and Heidi for sponsoring the meal!

On the way back to the camper, we passed cozy bars and discovered a wakeboard facility in the harbor basin not far from the campsite. I would have loved to have a ride there too...
