After a cozy day off, the travel bug is back! The destination for today is Kaunas, with a population of 315,000, various universities and churches, and a long history. It is the secret capital of Lithuania and will be the European Capital of Culture in 2022.
Today, I have a short stage ahead of me, a little over 60 kilometers, because I want to do some sightseeing in the afternoon.
Along the way, I make several photo stops. I am particularly fascinated by the landscape and the charming settlements nestled within it. Sometimes there are individual farms, then small villages, and occasionally even small towns. I also notice the well-maintained monuments and attractions. In general, everything is very tidy and cozy everywhere. The road along the Memel River, which is actually called Naumas, is also in good condition.
So I arrive in Kaunas shortly after 1:00 PM. The campsite is well signposted and the reception is very welcoming, so I am soon on my way to explore the city on my bike. And I must say, I was not disappointed. But I think I will let the pictures do the talking.
Now I am enjoying the evening with a simple dinner and dreaming of tomorrow.
