Day 53 to 55 Friday, February 26, 2016 Kalaw

Byatangajwe: 20.12.2016

Hello,

the bus journey ended very early in the morning, precisely around 3:30 a.m. in Kalaw. Now the question was whether to start the 3-day trekking tour today, in about 4 hours, or to stay in Kalaw for 1 day and start the 2-day tour tomorrow. Our tiredness won, so we will start tomorrow.

And this decision was not bad at all because Kalaw is a welcoming little town.

And so we wandered around the market during the day, where there was again a lot of interesting things to see, as usual at Asian markets.

The next morning we enjoyed our strengthening breakfast and then we started our great trekking tour. We were taken from Kalaw to the starting point about 15 km away by pick-up, and from there we just started walking. We were a small group of 3, a nice young man from Singapore and of course our guide, I think his name was Phyo or something similar, he was the youngest in our group at 20 but a quite funny guy. Our first day was supposed to cover a distance of 18.5 km and lead through a beautiful mountain landscape.

It was quite sweat-inducing but we took breaks from time to time. The first one was after about 90 minutes in a village where we were warmly welcomed again and received some salty and sweet snacks and of course tea.

After another hour we reached another very small village where we also had our lunch before we headed for the next 2-hour stage.

Then we reached a river where it was time to jump in, cool down and take a shower. Yes, take a shower because where we were supposed to spend the night after another 60 minutes march, there was no shower. All the water the residents here need had to be transported here with water cans.

We were served another abundant and very tasty dinner, which would not only have been enough for the 4 of us but also for 8 people. Then we went to bed around 8 p.m., the day was exhausting.

Day 2, wake-up was at 7 a.m. for breakfast, and then we went on another 5-hour but really beautiful 15 km march, where we finally reached Inle Lake, where we had lunch first.

And then a boat took us to Nyaung Shwe in a 75-minute ride. This was our final destination of the beautiful tour.

Goodbye...
