Our destination today is the gold rush town of Barkerville, and the route continues north on the Cariboo Highway and then onto the Cariboo Wagon Road.
We pass by a First Nation cultural center, which offers a great view of the Fraser River. Along the way, we see small lakes glistening in the sun and beaver colonies. We are greeted by small marmots with their calls during our picnic.
After checking in at the historic Wells Hotel, we take a first exploratory walk through Barkerville. We will save the detailed visit for tomorrow.
In the evening, we take a short drive in hopes of spotting wildlife and are rewarded! Unfortunately, we can't observe the moose for long, but we do see two bears (probably a mother bear with a cub). They calmly eat the fresh green grass next to our car.
