Mahalo Big Island, a beautiful time comes to an end

Byatangajwe: 01.10.2018

Today is our last day of vacation on Big Island Hawai'i and how else could we start it than with a delicious breakfast on our terrace. Here's the first highlight: as we step onto the terrace, we are greeted by a vibrant rainbow spanning the sky, the perfect conditions for a great last day of vacation.

After a visit to the swimming pool where 'Germany' (my nickname among the lifeguards, as Janina is difficult for them to pronounce) says goodbye to her favorite pool, we head to Honaunau Bay to bid farewell. Every underwater encounter is fully enjoyed under the bright sunshine and on our last snorkeling trip, we actually encounter the long-awaited turtle. We haven't seen one up close at this spot before. Mom spots our friend right away (I might have swum past her due to her good camouflage) and quickly retrieves the underwater camera, because we don't want to miss capturing these moments. Just as the Hawaiian motto 'Hang Loose' suggests, the turtle glides through the underwater world while we glide alongside her like turtles ourselves. Sometimes, she moves her flippers as if waving at us, simply unforgettable. A video will give you a little impression.

Of course, in the afternoon we also want to bid farewell to Kona. We take a leisurely walk and end up back at the swimming pool to watch the triathletes train - fascinating. As a bonus, I even receive an original swim cap from the Kona Swim Team - something I will cherish!

On the shores of the city, where we watch the sunset, there is a Hawaiian ceremony taking place, right by the ocean, and we get to be a part of it. Unique atmosphere, just take a look at the pictures.

A truly successful last day, suitcases are packed for our flight to Maui tomorrow. We leave with mixed feelings and thank Big Island for this unforgettable time!
