Roadtrip Day 61 - Eyre Peninsula

Byatangajwe: 15.11.2017

We received a tip to definitely visit Port Lincoln. They say it has the best seafood in the world. Since it's only 200km more from the route, we decided to go to the Eyre Peninsula.

We made stops at Streaky Bay and Smokey Bay. Both were not as spectacular as expected due to the cloudy sky and light rain. In Elliston, we drove the Great Ocean Drive, which was still impressive even in the rain. Since it's supposed to rain in the next few days, we decided to keep going. We arrived in the city of Port Lincoln at 5:40 pm. We quickly went to the seafood restaurant / seafood shop. They have almost every meal available gluten-free. We ordered Fish & Chips, which were delicious, and we were very happy to have arrived before closing time (6 pm). After driving over 400 km and with continuous rain, we decided to keep going. It was only 350km to Port Augusta. In Port Augusta, we can go south towards Adelaide, east towards Sydney, or north towards Darwin. We drove another 150km and finally got to try our LED light bar. Without it, driving in the dark would have been impossible. We were alone at the rest area, so we could keep the car running and set up our tent in the headlight's glow.

Since we still had time, we decided to drive through Port Augusta towards Adelaide. There, we want to visit the city of Adelaide, as well as the next wine region, Barossa Valley, and the German village, Hahndorf. Then we will drive back 300 km to Port Augusta and cross the continent through the center for over 2,700 km to Darwin.
