Roadtrip Day 15-18 / Broome

Byatangajwe: 03.10.2017

After our Maxi was roadworthy again, we continued 230 km westward to the city of Broome.

Broome is located on the Indian Ocean, has a tropical climate, and is known for its pearls and beaches. We visited the world's largest pearl as well as many other jewels with information about pearl fishing. We already knew some things from Jenny (from Darwin), who works on a ship for Paspaley. Apart from that, Broome is very pleasant with its 14,000 inhabitants. There are also many beaches, old and new jetties, and Australia's oldest cinema.

We experienced a beautiful sunset at Cable Beach. This beach has been awarded as the 3rd most beautiful beach in the world and the most beautiful sunset in the world. Everyone is allowed to drive on the beach with their off-road vehicle, but it is too dangerous for swimming (crocodiles, jellyfish, and sharks). Well, the Australians go swimming, you just have to be careful!

We spent two nights at a campsite in Broome City, where we met Patrick and his father again (from Kakadu NP and Gibb River Road). We used the time for deep conversations. We spent another night at the Willie Creek Pearl Farm, where you can set up your camp on the beach for free. It's a magical place, located 38 km north of Broome and accessible via a sandy road. There, we enjoyed ourselves and ate schnitzel with salad.
