Today was the last time we went to the beach with the children. Right at the beginning, one of them kicked the football about 3 meters into the water. They called me and asked what they should do. I told them to swim out and get it. It turned out that none of the children could swim properly. The ball kept drifting further out. Since I didn't really want to go into that puddle, the children called one of the care workers to retrieve the ball. But even he hesitated for a long time to go into the water and looked quite fearful. I suspect that he can't swim properly either. As he waited longer and longer and the ball drifted about 50 meters out, I had no choice but to go into the puddle and get the ball. I was the hero of the day :D
Afterwards, I showed the children how to swim. Very crazy... 25 children and not a single one could swim properly! Then some of them played cricket. A very popular sport here!
Then I finished a bit earlier and went to the beach alone to read. In the evening, there was a concert by a very well-known musician in South Africa, Karen Zoid, in Plett. Before the concert, Steph told me to make myself a sandwich for dinner, they are bringing a picnic. I thought it was an open-air concert. However, it was indoors in a concert hall, with catering. Very special to bring a cooler and your own drinks to a concert :-).
Paul and Steph advertised for the concert hall where the concert was held and got free tickets. Karen sings in Afrikaans and English. It was a very very nice concert! A very likeable woman and very down to earth, even though she is very famous. Afterwards, we went to the home of a friendly couple of Steph and Paul and ended the evening with billiards and a midnight braai.
