Highlight of the day: It's spring, the temperatures are accordingly. Before I started, my AppleWatch told me that it was 11° outside. So I dressed accordingly little. It was a bit chilly at first, but it was enough all day as it got warmer and warmer, currently it is about 24°.
From my accommodation to the Aare River and to Aarberg, it was just a stone's throw away. The old wooden bridge is worth seeing and reminded me of old times.
It's been more than 15 years since André and I paddled the old Aare together in a two-seater kayak from here down to Solothurn. The day before, we already mastered the route on the Aare from Thun to the end of Lake Wohlensee.
The ride on the old Aare was a big challenge. Even back then, there were countless trees in and above the water. Look at the photos and you will agree with me that it is practically impossible to navigate this water today. As it is a nature reserve, the trees are left as they fall.
Even on the land route, it was not easy, at least not if you follow the route suggested by Komoot. After less than 200m, the whole path was filled with nature. By chance, a hobby photographer also came to the same spot, so we tried to make our way through the thicket together.
Back on the hiking trail, I preferred to stay on the slightly wider paths for today.
On the way, I realized that my big hike is coming to an end, so I wanted to make things happen. Fix the individual stages and book the overnight stays as much as possible. Now I know that I will be heading home again on Monday.
Today, my path led me past Lyss and also past a children's zoo that I didn't know before. Maybe worth a trip with the grandchildren sometime?
For me, it was an opportunity to buy my lunch: today I had a strawberry cone and a can of beer.
The floodplain area of the old Aare is a large and diverse nature reserve. Since the whole area is very flat, everything is also easy to handle by bike. There are many well-developed cycle paths. In general, the entire Seeland is ideal for cycling tours.
All in all, I really enjoyed today's stage, especially as it was complemented by some built-in adventures.
