Hello Myanmar 🇲🇲 - the first week is already over

Byatangajwe: 09.03.2017

8 days in Myanmar and it already feels like three months full of impressions!

Started in Yangon, then took the night bus to Mandalay after two days.

From there, took a boat to Bagan the next day and after three days, flew to Nyaungshwe for the Inle Lake.

Many stereotypes have been confirmed, others not at all.

Stereotype 1: Photos of Burmese people usually show them with face paint. That's true! Here, most children, women, and men wear a paste made from the Tanaka root for decoration and sun protection.

Stereotype 2: There is no good food and no spicy curries in Myanmar. That's not true! At least not when you're away from tourist paths, eating at street stalls or with locals.

Stereotype 3: The Burmese are the friendliest Southeast Asians. That's only partially true! We have met super friendly people, but in Bagan we also experienced the unfriendliest hotel staff ever. So just like everywhere else, there are good and bad people. ;)

In general, the men are more reserved and skeptical towards us women. However, women and children always want to take photos with us and greet us very kindly.
