It was the worst bus ride ever! After the breakfast stop a few hours after Montañita, Seraina suddenly had extreme stomach cramps and aches and filled multiple bags on the bus. But there were still about 6 hours to go to Quito and she had to endure it. The winding streets didn't make it any better, and when we finally arrived in Quito in the evening, she was definitely down. So off to bed - drink tea and try to sleep.
The next morning it was already much better - nevertheless we took a "dead day" and didn't leave the hostel at all. But in the kitchen we met some new Swiss colleagues and met our former companion Karin again. Mathias had already met her in the bar the night before when Seraina had to give up.
On the second day in Quito, top form was almost back and so we discovered the Middle of the World together with Sven and Tabea. A little outside of Quito, the equator runs and there is a monument as well as a few souvenir shops and museums. All in all, a classic tourist destination, but still interesting how some physical laws seem to go crazy here at the Latitude Zero point.
We spent the afternoon in the city center. We visited the Basilica del Voto Nacional, where you have a great view of the city from the towers, and strolled around a bit.
To be honest, we didn't do much more in Quito. We're not really in the mood for big cities anymore, so we're going to take a two-day tour out into nature before continuing from Quito.
