We said goodbye to the mountains, the journey continued despite the warm temperatures, first stop: Ponte de Lima. After a short walk across the historic Ponte Romana we reached the city center. In the small, cute alleyways it was nice and shady and pleasantly cool. Perfect for a breakfast at a bakery. In addition to coffee and fresh juice, there was finally the first pasteis de nata.
In addition to numerous small restaurants, many small shops line the streets. At the first grocery store I left immediately because of the smell. When it smelled like that again at the second store, I realized where the smell must be coming from and I should probably get used to it. The salted and then dried bacalaho (cod) fish that you can buy everywhere gives off this wonderful smell…
After a small snack in the form of a Bifana at an unbeatably low price, we went back to Louise, who unfortunately no longer parked in the shade, but in the blazing sun, with an outside temperature of almost 35 degrees. Airing it out completely in the shade helped only moderately, switching on the air conditioning made the onward journey bearable.
Due to the temperature we headed towards the sea, we were turned away at the first campsite, the second had a spot for us, even a shady one.
In the evening we went to the fishing port of the nearby town. We hoped for a little more originality, but then it was a bit very touristy. My grilled sardines still tasted good!
