We woke up at 4 o'clock in order to catch the first bus (departure at 5:30 am) to Machu Picchu. We could hear the sound of flowing water. Hoping that it was just a shower, we looked out of the window and there it was; pouring rain. One hopes for good weather when visiting one of the wonders of the world, and then this happens. With a gloomy mood, we headed to the bus. There was already a huge line formed. After finally getting a bus, the weather was still bad up there. Both mountains (see day 12) were barely visible and disappeared into the clouds. After some initial impressions at the ruins, we made our way towards Machu Picchu Mountain, as it was included in the entrance fee. The enthusiasm was limited, since the view was not promising due to the clouds. The mood improved halfway up, as the rain stopped and some clouds disappeared. Once we arrived at the top, there was already a great view of Hidroelectrica and Aguas Calientes, but Machu Picchu was still covered in clouds. After half an hour at the summit, there was not a single cloud to be seen - breathtaking. After taking thousands of pictures and absorbing the impressions, we headed back down to visit the ruins.
All initial doubts about the bad weather disappeared and we were able to enjoy a great day.
