Day 7: Day of Superlatives

Опубликовано: 05.07.2020

With a heavy heart, we said goodbye to Rūgumi today. Originally, we had actually decided to stay for another night yesterday evening. However, since rain was forecasted for today, we wanted to move on.

After everything was packed up, we drove from Ziemupē in a northerly direction to Kuldīga. It took us an hour for the approximately 80 km. On the agenda was the longest brick bridge in Europe, as well as the widest waterfall in Europe. How convenient that they are next to each other.

Afterwards, we took a closer look at Kuldīga. In general, we noticed that all cities and towns are incredibly clean and always decorated with lots of flowers.

We continued northwards to Mazirbe, back to the East Coast. The 1.5-hour drive doesn't feel that long because you always discover something new, or familiar things like stork nests and hay bales... When we arrived, we did a 4 km long bog hike in Lielais pēterezers pietauvot. The hike takes you through forest, over boardwalks and paths towards the water. Discoveries include orchids, lizards, and sea eagles. Even if you don't see the animals, a visit is definitely worth it.

From here, it was only a stone's throw away (14 km) to Cape Kolka. This is where the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga meet.

After this short detour, we drove along the coast for another half an hour south to our overnight camp. Today, the first night of wild camping. We were a little excited :)
