10.12.16
We are on the plane as the next day begins at midnight for every ordinary person. Why do we emphasize this? Thanks to the date line, the 10.12.16 starts again for us. Today we can do everything differently than yesterday - no wonder, we will soon land in a new destination. The flight takes about 7.5 hours and we cover another 7,097 kilometers by plane. The only downside to the whole thing is that we will sleep for at most three hours during the entire overnight flight.
We land in Honolulu at 06:00. Now we are 11 hours behind Swiss time instead of 12 hours ahead (as in NLZ). Now follows the lengthy process of entering the USA. Surprisingly, it goes pretty quickly. Well, the checks don't seem to be as strict here as at other American airports. So we don't have to have our luggage scanned and we are through immigration in 15 minutes. Honestly, we didn't think that. But don't worry, we will lose the allegedly gained time while waiting for a shuttle bus to Waikiki. The nice lady forgot to record and assign both of us (despite having paid tickets). Well, we have time...
In a cafe, we wait for Evan, who is supposed to show us the apartment. He is a bit late, but eventually he gives us various instructions on what to do, so that we don't look like tourists at the security desk - not quite easy with huge suitcases and backpacks ;-)
After depositing our bags in a room, we take off on an exploration tour through Waikiki. It's warm, but not humid. On a green lawn near the sea, we take a short power nap. After that, we continue to the shopping mall and to Panda Express (Asian food chain). Without exaggeration, the malls in Honolulu are huge and quite impressive.
Finally, at 4 p.m., we take a short tour with a tour bus and then walk back from the Ala Moana Shopping Mall to Waikiki Beach. The sunset is fantastic and numerous people take thousands of photos, just like us :-) After a pizza from the oven, we fall tired into bed.
