... or the answer to why we take the sabbatical year. Ever since I watched the movie 'The Horse Whisperer' with Robert Redford and a very young Scarlett Johansson, I wanted to stand at the intersection where Kristin Scott Thomas turns right towards the farm with the injured horse on the trailer. The vastness of Montana, the blue-white sky, the green forest and meadows, and the snow-covered mountains in the background.
I have been to the USA many times, but it is just the case that you never have time for these 'side roads' away from the well-known tourist attractions or you don't take them during a 3-week vacation. So I wanted to drive to the USA for a longer period of time and look at exactly these places without a specific plan and without time pressure.
We were not disappointed. The landscape here is simply beautiful. Most scenes were filmed around the town of 'Big Timber'. We did not recognize the exact intersection, but since 1998, things have certainly changed here as well. We definitely went there because we drove on all streets 😄🚗 And in the end, we had a really delicious burger at the hotel where the actors stayed during the filming. So we probably sat on the chairs of Robert Redford and Scarlett Johansson 🍔😂👍!
And then there is also the land of the railroad. We hear it thundering past the motel every night and during the day, you can see many coal trains. Here you can find many references to the conquest of the West by the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the railroad 🚂, or traces of settler treks to the West.
