Byron Bay!

Publicado: 30.03.2017

The sun is still shining on the second day in Byron Bay. We are changing our parking spot as we need electricity for our fridge and other devices every few days. So the camper gets new power and we spend the morning in the shade with our books(!). For the afternoon, we plan to take a walk/hike to the lighthouse of the city and to the easternmost point of Australia.

Since the path is labeled as "hard" on the internet, we naturally need some sustenance beforehand. In the open-air kitchen of the campsite, I find a gas stove and start cooking fried potatoes. One hour and fifteen minutes later, we finally have food. The long "cooking time" can be attributed not only to the too small pan, which forced me to cook in multiple batches, but also to the loving preparation ; ) In the end, the result counts: crispy fried potatoes with onions and scrambled eggs prepare us for the hike. We agree: The long preparation time was worth it (Luckily, the kitchen was covered and thus in the shade).

After the meal, we make our way to the lighthouse. When we arrive two hours later, we don't really understand why the path is rated as difficult, but we enjoy the beautiful view of the beaches and the vastness of the ocean. Unfortunately, we did not see any whales or dolphins, which are said to be common in this coastal area. A few souvenir photos later, we make our way back to the campsite. At sunset, we walk along the beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

We decided to have dinner in town as it is now dark and with the onset of darkness comes the time of the Australian mosquitoes.... What sandflies are in New Zealand, mosquitoes are here. Annoying, aggressive, and apparently highly interested in our skin. So, as we don't feel like getting more mosquito bites, we opt for a Mexican snack (OZyMEX) and do not regret the decision.
