Two days ago, we took our time getting up in the morning. We didn't start our next destination, Phillip Island, until 11:30. We really wanted to see penguins. And so we did. After half an hour of volleyball and the most delicious food we've had so far, we made our way to the Penguin Parade at 4:30 PM, which happens daily. Just before it got dark, hundreds of penguins returned from hunting to their breeding grounds and waddled right past us. Basti felt a strong connection with them 😁 Later, we planned the rest of our journey to Sydney.
Yesterday, we woke up with the chickens - literally. The owner of the campsite gave us some insider tips the night before, so we headed there. Once again, we were followed by storm and clouds as we walked along the beach for an hour, and then did a bit of climbing. The view was really beautiful! Just in time for the feeding, we also saw a few pelicans. Huge animals! After that, our mood somehow steadily declined. I think we had cabin fever.. a beach without sun is just a beach. We decided to drive a bit faster towards Sydney and booked an Airbnb from the 17th of May. The sooner we go north, the sooner we'll have better weather too. The day ended at 8 PM.
This morning, we were awake before sunrise. Hallelujah - as if the sun had something to make up for - there was finally a sunrise! So far, the sky is shining in the most beautiful blue. Let's hope it stays that way. Destination for today: Gippsland Lakes.
