Today's journey takes us from the Atlantic coast to the White Mountains in North Conway, New Hampshire.
This is about 330 km across Maine. The first break was already taken after about half an hour: we encountered a Walmart Supercenter on our way!
Since our son absolutely wants to replenish his supply of Star Wars memorabilia and Alexandra, our dear friend, wants a special cosmetic item (I think it's an extra lubricating gel), we stopped and went shopping again.
Aaron, of course, found what he was looking for and with a Star Wars mask and some other plastic junk in our luggage, we continued westward.
Maine is beautiful. Comparable to the Sauerland region, but (since we are in America) bigger. Much bigger. And every five miles, you pass a large lake. The villages you pass through are small, cute, and sleepy. It feels like being in the Walton family.
After about an hour of driving, I turned around to ask Aaron something and saw this:
In shock, I jerked the steering wheel and ran over John-Boy, who was standing on the side of the road selling homemade lemonade. We had to secretly bury him in the woods. That cost us about an hour of time.
We left Maine behind us around 3:00 pm and reached New Hampshire.
The land without value-added tax! That means: Outlet country!
But first, we had to go uphill! The landscape here is similar to the Black Forest region in our country. Here, though, you won't see ladies walking around with red pom-poms on their heads. Instead, you'll see lots of men in camouflage clothing with shotguns. We reached our hotel around 4:00 pm. It's located right on the Saco River, a small river where you can swim.
Tomorrow we will hike to the highest mountain in New England, Mount Washington (1917 m). And probably visit some outlet shops as well...
P.S.: The story about John-Boy Walton is of course not true. The good man is in good health and runs furniture and car dealerships.
And the story about the lubricating gel for Alexandra is also not true. In reality, she wants a libido-enhancing product for her husband...😜
