On 01.07. we went back to Bali. Our boat was supposed to leave at 3pm, so we spent the morning still on vacation and went for Rendang one last time.
Unfortunately, the return journey was quite a torture, our boat was delayed and left from Lombok (the neighboring island). So we had to take another boat first to Lombok and wait for our boat there for a while. The boat ride was super rough and shaky, but we had a great view of the sunset and Bali.
When we arrived at the harbor, we took a taxi to Canggu, which took about 1 1/2 hours. Unfortunately, we relied on arriving in the afternoon and being able to look for accommodation. Due to all the delays, we didn't arrive in Canggu until around 10:30pm without a booked accommodation. We had picked one that we wanted to check out, but unfortunately it was fully booked in the evening. So we sat down in a cafe with Wi-Fi and found another accommodation that had a 24-hour reception and a free room.
The hosts were super nice and the room was okay, very simple and not particularly clean. The family had several dogs and very cute dog babies.
Since the accommodation was not very centrally located, we set off the next day to look for a better one.
The next accommodation was really nice again and very close to the beach.
After bringing our laundry to be washed, we went to the beach. The beach in Canggu is quite nice, not a dream beach, but white sand and good for surfing. It's not really suitable for swimming because of the waves.
Next to us were two German girls, whom I just talked to to ask what you can do in the area. Coincidentally, both of them were also from Berlin and we got along great right away. We arranged to meet in the evening and watched the sunset together.
We spent the next day at the beach and went to the market in Canggu and visited some shops.
We also rented a scooter for the first time and I drove a few meters. In the evening, we drove with the scooter to a temple to watch the sunset together. For this, we had to drive through the rush hour traffic for over half an hour... It was really a nightmare. Even in Thailand, the traffic is apparently nothing compared to this, I'm definitely curious.
Here's a little impression:
On our last evening together, we went to a skate bar and then to a beach bar with the two girls, who are called Xenia (24) and Kathi (27) and are sisters.
The way back was a bit difficult, we had to pass about 5-6 stray dogs that all growled at us, but we just kept walking and everything went well. Two very sweet stray dogs followed us from the beach bar to our accommodation. One even spent the night in front of our door. 😍
The next morning, we went to a pretty cool café together with the two girls to have breakfast.
After breakfast, we had to leave as Juja had to go to the airport and the three of us continued to the south.
As always, we were running very late, racing through half of Bali in a taxi to get there on time, but we somehow made it again. After a sad goodbye, we dropped off Juja at the airport and continued towards Uluwatu.
Here, the taxi driver dropped us off at a cheap, modest accommodation. Somehow, it was absolutely not our day, because everything went wrong. After the rush to the airport, it started raining in Uluwatu right after our arrival, and shortly afterwards the power went out. Then we met a girl from Spain who was also staying at our accommodation, and together we went out to eat. In the first restaurant, the power went out again shortly after ordering, so we had to change restaurants. But then we got something to eat and didn't have to go to bed hungry 😄
Nevertheless, the day was quite exhausting overall, and the cold shower just before going to sleep (there was no hot water in the accommodation) didn't make it any better.
But well, you have days like that sometimes. At least we all slept well after the exhausting day.
