After this meal, the stage could begin. First, we went along the Kaag towards Nordwijk.
Arriving at the sea, we chose the coastal cycle path through the dune landscape towards Rotterdam - fantastic cycling, great scenery, and a strong tailwind.
A break in between - after all, dunes are mainly made of sand:
From Scheveningen, it is not far to 'Hoek van Holland'. There we crossed over to the new port 'Maasvlakte' with the harbor ferry (approximately 7km on this stage were covered with this ferry). The port was supplemented with an artificial island between 2006 and 2013, on which gigantic container and gas terminals as well as other areas are located, such as those used for the installation of offshore wind turbines.
South of Rotterdam, we crossed the Haringvlietdam to Goedereede - built in 1971 as one of the major dams to protect the Netherlands against storm surges.
In Goedereede, we took accommodation in the Goede Ree Verbeek-Park.
Goedereede is of course a well-known place for insiders, as the second-to-last German pope was a pastor here before, right? - Hadrian VI. in the 1490s.
In the evening, we had dinner in Ouddorp, had a little ice cream and then went to the beach again.
