After a night in the Fijian nightlife, we set off to the port of Lautoka at 6:00 in the morning. After a 4-hour ferry ride, we arrived at Nucula (one of the countless islands of Fiji) ~ paradise! 🌴☀️
During the 2 days on the island (Nucula Lodge), we explored a hidden cave, snorkelled at different reefs & in the Blue Lagoon, and climbed to probably the most beautiful sunset viewpoint of our trip. 🌅
Our next island-hopping stop was Wayalailai, where we stayed in a homestay with Manu's family (probably the mayor of the village). After an initial culture shock (living in tin huts, initially no other tourists, bucket shower, no running water, rainwater for drinking...), and a warm welcome tea from the family, we grew to love the small village somewhere in the middle of nowhere. ❣️ During the trips to snorkel with sharks (which I had a lot of respect for...), fishing for dinner, and a school visit to our host family's grandchild (for the National 'Wold Thinking Day' Festival), we got to know the lives of the Fijians better. On our last evening, some villagers made a huge bonfire for us on the beach and showed us the beautiful Fijian starry sky. 🔥🌟 The next morning, Manu took us to the mainland for sunrise, as Jojo had fallen ill while snorkelling and had to go to the hospital... 🤧 After a short visit and equipped with medication, we headed to the next already booked island, Mana. In the evening, there was a wild fire show and crazy games to welcome us. The next day, we went on a discovery tour to Monuriki Island, where the movie 'Cast Away' with Tom Hanks was filmed. 🌴🎥 While climbing the film sets in 40°C heat, I got my first heatstroke, which left me sleeping in the hammock on the veranda of our hostel for the rest of the day. ☀️🌡️ After 4 hours and some herbs from the locals, I felt better again, so we could spend the sunset on the hills above the village. 🌄
