Every Wednesday in the small town of Sineu, the famous weekly market takes place. This has been going on since 1306. Sineu is located in the center of Mallorca and is the farthest city from the sea. From the early morning hours, you can find all kinds of stands in the narrow streets and numerous terraces, offering vegetables, fruits, meat and sausage products, sweets, traditional crafts, and even animals. Unfortunately, commerce from the Far East has also found its way here. You can buy 'genuine' brand handbags, caps, and leather goods for a few euros.
TIP: If you are really interested in an 'original', bargaining is obligatory. The golden rule: always set an extremely low price and pay no more than a third of the price. If it doesn't work at one stall, quickly move to another.
For all gourmet lovers, I recommend a really good Mallorcan ham and the handmade empanadas - small pastry pockets with various fillings.
As with any other good weekly market, the early bird catches the worm here too. If you manage to arrive by 9:00 am, you have a good chance of being able to stroll through the streets in peace. From 10:00 am or later, it will already be very crowded. And for those who want to take it easy, you can even have breakfast in the numerous cafes and watch the bustling activity.
You can easily reach Sineu via all the main roads on the island. Free parking is available on the outskirts of the city.
