We wanted to visit another Greek island and decided to go to Thassos. This island, called the white island because of the marble deposit, is located in eastern Greece. Therefore, it is popular among Eastern Europeans. It takes half an hour by ferry from Keramoti. We chose the 'Golden Beach' as our first location, on the east coast. We were not very convinced by the campsite, as it is full of permanent residents. There is no camping feeling here, it is more like a small village. The permanent campers even occupy the beach permanently, the sun umbrellas stay in place all summer. But the beach was very beautiful. The whole bay is quite touristic, with restaurants and cafes along the beach. It was quite nice. After two days, we continued to explore the island. In the south, it was not so green due to forest fires. We visited an impressive monastery high above the white cliffs and saw many beautiful coves.
Our next destination was Camping Pefkari. There are no permanent campers here. But we had to practically buy the best spot right on the beach, these spots are significantly more expensive. However, we enjoyed a wonderful spot right on the beach. Next to it is a hotel, where we could have used the pool. But the boys didn't want to, they preferred to jump into the water from the mobile pier. With the bike, we reached a small village, where we could watch the football games in the evenings. Gian suffers a lot with his favorite team. And he is always convinced that the referees are biased. I wonder where he gets that...;-))
Overall, a mixed picture of Thassos. The mainland of Greece seems to be more relaxed overall, while tourism on the islands is much more competitive. Nevertheless, we had wonderful days at the beach. Meanwhile, the height of summer has arrived, we spend the whole day in our swimwear and the sea is wonderfully warm.
