This day Rennes! Since the tourist office is quite far from our accommodation, we drive into the city center by car. That's the plan, but the city resists. In the pre-planning, everything seemed so easy, but reality is different! So many one-way streets, so many missing road signs, so many detours, so the day didn't start well. Eventually, we parked the Wild Hilde, which as always, handled everything great, near the tourist info. Karin took a picture of the street name where we parked her for safety and we set off on foot. That was relatively easy and there we also had, as expected, free internet. I never thought we were so dependent on it! We also got a tourist city map there, which should guide us through the city. There was a lot to see, although a major fire, which destroyed a lot of the old buildings after another one in the 17th century, in 1994. Besides the still existing half-timbered houses and the mosaic-covered squares and palaces, the atmosphere in the narrow streets was very nice. The temperatures while walking through Rennes were very high. We looked for shade and tried to enter courtyards and buildings, that's how we wandered through the city. After all, it is the center of Brittany and already had an important position in the Middle Ages. And once again, the Romans are to blame for everything, as Cauditia was the starting point for this significance. This also explains the cathedral with its immense, gold-trimmed splendor. Of course, it doesn't need to be mentioned anymore that there was again a carousel on the central square. These very old-fashioned rides seem to exist in every French metropolis and they spin whether with visitors or not. Besides this curiosity, we also had our French breakfast. Enter the bar and say everything you want, put it on a tray and sit down somewhere. A fresh half baguette with tuna, with egg and tomato and lettuce leaves is really tasty and satisfying for the whole day. Karin also enjoyed her delights! But we will definitely walk all of that off again!
Sweaty and tired, we arrived back at our apartment in the afternoon! First, we had to find the Wild Hilde again, Karin's street name photo made it possible. The evening brought us the healthy food from yesterday and a second wine went well with it!
