Hello dear ones. I'm sorry I haven't been in touch lately. Well, nothing exciting has happened here at the other end of the world as you might think. The kids have been on vacation for a week now and during this time we went on a four-day camping trip. Well, more like glamping (glamorous camping) with running hot water, shower, toilet, etc. On Monday we left Buninyong in the rain and arrived in Halls Gap under a bright blue sky. We quickly unpacked (a whole trunk full plus a trailer) and went straight to the playground with Hannah. After a short time, my host dad's brother and his family arrived and the short vacation could begin. Halls Gap is known for its wild kangaroos, emus, wallabies, and koalas. So it was no wonder that right next to one of the cabins, many kangaroos were taking a nap in the shade of the trees. We were able to get very close to them without scaring them away. There were even some joeys.
The next day, we set off to hike in the Grampians. We hiked the 2 km to the lookout point in temperatures felt like 25 degrees and under the scorching sun. 2 km may not be much, but it takes on a whole new meaning when you have to climb several meters in elevation and cross several rocks :D Well, the work paid off once we reached the top. A wonderful view over the otherwise very flat land in Victoria. Simply breathtaking. Once we reached the valley, we all enjoyed an ice cream, which was very refreshing after the exertion. In the evening, my host dad cooked over the campfire. That was really cool.
On Wednesday, we drove to the Aboriginal Center of the town, where we watched small films about the history of the region and its people. In the end, we all painted our own boomerangs and learned how to throw them so that they come back. Then we went to another waterfall, McKenzie Falls. The path was extremely steep and had steps. Clumsy me twisted my foot on the way down. But the pain was worth it. I was already impressed by the small waterfall, but the McKenzie Falls really blew me away. The days went by extremely quickly and unfortunately ended for me with a stomach bug. I'm recovering here in my room and hope the next few days will bring more positive things for me. Today is a national holiday here as tomorrow is the AFL Grand Final. The Australians are already crazy :D
