I leave Akureyri heading north and drive to Siglufjördur.
On the way there, you have beautiful views of the Eyjafjördur Bay and the island of HRISEY. I make a stop in the small fishing harbor of HAUGANES. Here is a nice campsite with hot pools and sauna right by the sea, as well as the beautiful restaurant Baccala, with a Viking ship converted into an outdoor area. I don't like Dalvik very much, so I decide to continue driving and stay overnight in OLAFSFJÖRDUR. Here I find a small campsite surrounded by great mountains, sea, and wide valleys. The great thing about the campsite is that the adjacent outdoor pool with hot pools and sauna is included in the price. I stay here for two days, as the spot invites you to go hiking, combined with the beautiful bath, a dream! At the campsite, I meet Enni and Johannes from Jena. Two very likeable 19-year-olds who are exploring Iceland by bike. It's a pretty tough story when you know how the wind can blow here in Iceland. We coincidentally meet again in SIGLUFJÖRDUR. They are just fishing and have already landed 3 fat cod. Enni, the super fisherwoman, catches 3 fat guys that day, Johannes 1, and I catch one too. But the funny story of the day is that I first caught 2 seagulls. No shit, I cast the fishing line and hit a seagull 20 meters away with the bait on its back. The bait gets caught in the feathers, the seagull and I fight for 3 minutes until it frees itself again. I cast the line again (40 meters away from the previous location) and where does the bait land, in the plumage of the next seagull. It should be noted that there were only occasional seagulls in the sea here, not hundreds! After the first failed attempts, which caused quite a bit of laughter, I finally proudly catch my first cod. YAHOO, I'm happy, a really great feeling! After we fillet all 5 fish (quite a mess) we all put them on the grill, enjoy our fresh catch with white wine and have a really great evening by the campfire, at the elevated campsite with a view over the bay of Siglufjördur. After breakfast together, I continue on to HOFSOS and SAUDARKROKUR to SKAGASTRÖND.
