We have arrived on the South Island!!! We will inform you about Wellington and the ferry ride on our way back. The South Island is truly, as everyone has told us, diverse and varied from place to place and moment to moment. Nelson is our first stop on the South Island. The town on the edge of Abel Tasman National Park offered us a beautiful hostel, located in the garden behind the cottage of a nice host mother. Hammocks and free hazelnut coffee now provide us with a good opportunity to relax and take time to unwind after the long distance we have traveled. We took a city tour to see the unique architecture and breathtaking trees. Quick note: On the way there, the bus driver gave us information about sightseeing spots along the route. We were able to admire an 'old' bridge, as described by the bus driver. Curiously, we looked out the window when we learned that it was a 100-year-old bridge. Maybe old by New Zealand standards due to its young history, but we just looked at each other and wondered which special and worthseeing bridges with history in Germany do not have such an age. In Nelson, we also took a jogging round along the beautiful coast to Tahunanui Beach and enjoyed the sunset on the beach.
