Guatemala - Lake Atitlán

Publicado: 01.02.2017

Beautiful, actually I wanted to write something yesterday, but the internet didn't want to cooperate and didn't save the post.

So here we go again :)

We arrived in Panajachel on Monday and went directly to San Marcos La Laguna, the 'hippie town' of the lake. Okay, maybe not directly, speed and punctuality are not really valued here :D 'The boat leaves in 15 minutes, but you can still get on' Hey great, but in the end we waited for about 45 minutes because they wanted to take more passengers. I have no idea how they manage to stick to their schedule, they supposedly leave 'every 20 minutes' :)

As soon as we arrived there, the small town immediately radiated positive energy. Everything is colorful, the walls are painted, there are stands everywhere with homemade jewelry, and everyone is extremely friendly and in a good mood. The relaxed atmosphere is really contagious.

When we arrived at the hostel 'Hostel del Lago', we actually only wanted to spend one night, but somehow we were so fascinated that we booked 3 nights right away. Dear people, what are you doing to us? :D

But I think it was a good decision, because here you can really relax after a long day.

And the other cities are easy to reach. A ferry ride costs about 2 euros. Not much at all :)

Yesterday we went to San Pedro, a nearby town that apparently has some issues with San Marcos. It can happen from time to time that San Pedro cuts off the water supply to San Marcos. Apparently, it happens because of some government disputes.

I said to the girls 'That they can just do something like that...' and shortly after, when I went to the toilet, I realized there was no water. Why can't I keep my mouth shut? :D At least the toilet was working, because hostels usually have a water reservoir. At least ;) Unfortunately, the shower water is really cold, which is terrible for someone like me who likes hot showers :D

But now let's talk about San Pedro:

Definitely worth a visit. The city offers many nice cafes, restaurants with great food ♡, shopping opportunities for souvenirs, and so on. Apparently, the souvenirs in Panajachel are the cheapest. I'll have to check that out these days ;D

Otherwise, it's also worth taking a walk through the small alleys and streets, because there are great paintings on the walls everywhere. I think I was just busy taking photos (always these annoying tourists ;D)
