When angels travel, even the North Cape has blue sky. After breakfast, there was a small briefing for those who will leave the ship in Kirkenes. The MS Finnmarken arrived in Honningsvåg at 11:15 AM. We covered the last 34km to the North Cape by bus. According to the tour guide, they have had summer weather for the past two days and nature is really exploding. That means the vegetation is as far along as it is in March here. Dandelions, oversized daisies, and other plants are in full bloom. The few trees in the gardens were planted by the residents because the natural treeline is about 150km further south. Such weather can almost be compared to winning the lottery. On the way, we were greeted by Rudolf and his owner (Sámi) because tourism is an important source of income. When we arrived at the North Cape, everyone wanted to take a photo in front of the globe. We toasted with a glass of champagne 🥂 at the northernmost point on the European mainland. We continued our journey on the ship with hot chocolate and apple cake in summer temperatures of 19 degrees.
As a conclusion, there was a fantastic North Cape buffet for dinner.
In Berlevåg, we encountered the last Hurtigruten ship, the MS Nordkap. This is celebrated with a special greeting. That means a party on the port side, including invernalisches getute. Now we are enjoying the midnight sun one last time before leaving the ship tomorrow.
