Today, after a relatively short night, I explored Shanghai. I took the metro to the city center and, of course, made a fool of myself. But without planning and language skills, it's difficult.
But it worked out and I ended up in the Lego store first 😍
Then I continued along the main shopping street to the Bund, which is the riverside area that separates the old town from the financial district. From there, you have an incredible view of several skyscrapers, including the 3rd tallest building in the world...
Then I just wandered through different streets and the food courts are especially interesting! Everything smells very intense and sweet, even the 'savory' food. Often, you can't tell if it's a main course or dessert. Very confusing!
Aside from the many loud people (after all, Shanghai is the 3rd largest metropolis in the world), one thing that takes getting used to is the 'manners'. People spit and it's common to see them spitting on the ground, sometimes you barely dodge it.
After countless streets, I finally reached the real old town area. Narrow alleys with low buildings that have now become more of a tourist attraction than anything else.
And now I'm waiting to board the plane. Another test of patience...
See you tomorrow!
