Day 21 - Mekong Delta Day Tour

Today got up early again, and this time it worked with the pick-up for the now free day tour to the Mekong Delta.

The journey takes about 2 hours, our tour guide David (they use European names for better communication with tourists) told us some information about the Mekong Delta and Vietnam in general. The first stop was a temple with giant Buddha statues. As is often the case on such tours, we were rushed from one place to another. So we had 25 minutes to see everything and then be back at the agreed meeting point, and then we were already on the bus again.

Arriving at the river, we took a boat ride on a section of the Mekong to visit the various local crafts, such as the processing of coconuts into candies. The local fruits were shown and there were tasting plates. In addition, there were local singing performances, a bee farm with variations of jasmine tea tastings. And of course, you could buy everything!

You could also touch a baby python and let it be placed around your neck.

Afterwards, there was a very uncomfortable boat ride for me on a small boat surrounded by water coconuts on a tributary of the Mekong. For lunch, we took a motorboat to another part of the Mekong (which didn't make much difference to us in terms of landscape). For food, there was fish, rice, soup, chicken, vegetables, and rolls filled with cucumber, pineapple, noodles, salad, and fish.

Afterwards, we took the bus back to Ho Chi Minh for 2 hours and moved to a cheaper hotel for the last night's sleep.
