Bowman's Beach

Publicados: 16.07.2018

The day in Cape Coral started very relaxed for us. As it should be for a real holiday, we slept in the extremely comfortable American box spring beds. After breakfast, it was time for football - the final day in Russia. But right at the start of the second half, there was an absolute catastrophe. The whole block suddenly lost power... And if until then, we hadn't seen any of the neighbors in this quiet residential area on the outskirts of Cape Coral, things suddenly got hectic... after all, the quaint bungalow-style single-family homes were in danger of heating up to over 18 degrees Celsius and the Bud Light in the fridge was at risk of becoming warm. That had to be prevented at all costs. The fact that the whirlpools in the backyards stopped bubbling was obviously the lesser evil. For us, it was a suitable opportunity for a little chat over the garden fence about how to solve the problem. After frantic phone calls from the locals, in the end, it was simply a matter of waiting. After about 45 minutes, the commotion died down abruptly. The air-conditioning units started rumbling again, the pools bubbled again, and lo and behold, as quickly as the neighbors appeared, they disappeared back into their homes. 'Nice to meet you, have a nice one. Yeah yeah... you too.' Nadi took advantage of the blackout and went shopping. Upon her return, she brought me the joyful news that the visited Walmart was much cheaper than the previously used Publix market. Thanks, good to know. ;-)

For the second half of the day, we had planned a trip to Sanibel Island. The island is known for its beautiful beaches, home to the largest shell deposits in the USA. Manatees also live here, but unfortunately, we didn't see any. We went to Bowman's Beach. Surely a nice beach with shells in all shapes and sizes. Maybe we just picked an unfavorable spot, but we have to admit that we liked the beaches of Naples better. However, the bathtub-warm water of the Gulf didn't give us any reason to leave the area. The grassy dunes and forest areas with plenty of picnic areas and grilling facilities are really beautiful. So there's nothing standing in the way of a longer beach visit. And since no American can go long without ice-cold drinks, there are even vending machines in the hinterland. After a few hours, armed with a delicious ice cream, we went back to our American Eagle. The grill was waiting for us on the terrace - it was BBQ time again!

Tomorrow we're going dolphin watching. C u!
