Hiking day near Vaihingen an der Enz

Circular hiking trail

It's unbelievable: as soon as the motorhome is cleared out, emptied and cleaned, we put on our hiking boots to follow another hiking tip from the local newspaper.

The start was at Vaihingen an der Enz train station. At first I misread the route description - stupid, or rather I walked two kilometers in the wrong direction.

At some point we ended up back at the train station and started the tour properly. When we reached the concentration camp memorial, my heart sank. There you can read how many people were killed here. The small sculpture at the entrance didn't make it any better. I will never understand how people can hate people so much. Neither then nor now should people act like such executioners.

We shook off these sad thoughts and continued through the forest. Here we wandered up and down; we climbed over one tree trunk, we ducked under another. A cyclist who was carrying his bike along the narrow path put it very nicely: once over it and once under it.

After a while we finally reached the longed-for espresso break: The SEEMÜHLE. A restaurant that promotes inclusion. Very nicely located, renovated and has a lovely self-service beer garden. The table next to us got sausage salad - quite a large portion - I was very happy with the fries. Espresso was also delicious.

Following the description, we hiked uphill between grain fields and quarries. Finally, we reached the vineyards. And pure sunshine! Luckily, I had put on enough SPF 50 sunscreen. We had a beautiful view over the vineyards down to Roßwag and heard the people cheering on the sports field. With so many people, there should be another espresso. There was, we enjoyed the little break and made our way back.

In total we walked around 13 kilometers. After the unfortunate start, it was still a nice hike. Unfortunately we didn't go to the town of Vaihingen an der Enz - we'll make up for that another day.
