Enz district

In the Enzkreis

Not by bike, though. We explored the Enzkreis in search of a nice background - for an action. It was really very warm and unfortunately the Sahara dust settled over Baden-Württemberg again. To be on the safe side, we put on 50% sunscreen again and took our sun hats with us.

There were places along the route that I had never even heard of. But we hadn't expected to see so many half-timbered houses in the various towns.

May 1st always attracts a lot of cyclists to the streets, as there are not cycle paths everywhere. However, when there are, there are plenty of fresh air enthusiasts out and about.

Our first stop was the town of Kämpfelbach-Ersingen. Here you will find the AMTSKELLER with a beautiful garden where guests can enjoy fine French and Italian cuisine under old chestnut trees.

The CURVY ones stand on the square in front of the market square - it has nothing to do with body size, but rather with the whey that is produced during cheese production. Explained on the board next to the two girls.

It is very hilly here, and there are always stairs to climb. It was quite easy to get to the church and going down was not exciting either. There was also a singing performance by the Catholic Men's Association - they were having a small celebration.

The second stop was Dietlingen. The LÖWEN inn was having a farm festival. Apparently the whole town had come. Music was playing in one of the tents and a solo entertainer created a Ballermann atmosphere. The line for delicious food was very long - at least 20 minutes - and there was no room at any of the beer tables. So we squeezed a bratwurst from the butcher BRITSCH (organizer of the festival and owner of the inn) into a bun, put mustard on it (and spilled a little on our t-shirts) and headed out of the crowd onto the street. That was a very tasty break. We skipped the good house wine this time. But we will definitely come back when there is no farm festival.

Then a little further to Keltern-Ellmendingen. A stream runs through the town; unfortunately partly underground. But the little bridges are really beautiful and there is also a little corner with five steps for cooling your feet or the dogs. Next to it is the ZUM GOLDENEN OCHSEN inn. All the outside seats were taken, they were in the shade of beautiful trees. Here we only had espresso and a look at the menu. It read very well. A menu for each month at very reasonable prices. Now they offer asparagus in various variations. Also the classic BADEN-BADEN REINDEER. (Info: the venison loin is spread with sour cream and topped with Black Forest ham, and is served with pear halves and cranberries.) We will also pay this inn another visit.

Ellmendingen is clearly a wine-producing town. This is not only evident from the vines on many old houses. At the foot of the church hill there are figures enjoying a glass of wine; a child is holding grapes in his hand; and lots of snails. I have no idea what the monkey with the mirror means. But it looked nice.

Then we went home through other towns in the northern Black Forest. If the air hadn't been full of Sahara dust, we would have taken some beautiful landscape photos. Maybe on the next trip.
