Luxor Valley of the Kings

خپور شوی: 29.01.2022

Luxor

7:30 Departure to the Valley of the Kings. 8 degrees... at least no frost😊

The Egyptians always oriented themselves towards the sun. The sun rises in the east, which is why the metropolises were always on the eastern bank, and because the sun sets in the west, the cemeteries were always

on the western bank. That's why the Valley of the Kings is located on the western bank.

We go over the Nile. On the way, we pick up Adventure-Lars, who took a balloon ride early this morning.

He's taking the trip to experience some real adventures. Sun-clear package tours with 90% pensioners are just perfect for that. Lars is probably around 30 years old🤣🤣

There are 62 tombs in the Valley of the Kings, including the one of Tutankhamun.

With the entrance ticket, we can visit 3 of the tombs. But, as expected, not Tutankhamun's tomb.

If you want to visit the tomb of Tutankhamun, you have to pay an additional €18 per person, and if you want to take pictures with a camera, you also pay an additional €18.

So we visit the tombs of Ramses I, Tausert, Setnakht, and Merenpath. Absolutely impressive how well-preserved the wall paintings and reliefs are.

After the Valley of the Kings, you have to go through the Valley of the Queens, like at every sightseeing spot. There is a small bazaar and they try to sell us everything possible.

Since there is also a sales event on the agenda today, we visit an alabaster workshop with a small demonstration and subsequent sales talks 🤣

Next, we go to the Hatshepsut Temple. A terraced temple dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut.

Absolutely impressive temple.

Then we go to the Colossi of Memnon and then back to the ship.

Lunch: We sit at the wrong table because ours is not set... this will cause some trouble.

Finally, we set off towards Edfu. After all, we booked a cruise. The weather is also nice, and we spend the afternoon sitting at the front of the ship, enjoying the Nile, which is slowly becoming more beautiful. There is even coffee and cake today... for free.

We continue down the Nile into the sunset. Small rowing boats keep attaching to our boat and trying to sell things.

We also see fishermen who fish or throw nets from their tiny boats.

The landscape consists of mountains and palm trees, small islands and meadows with cattle.

and always beautiful sunsets

At around 7 PM, we pass through the first lock. The evening is cheerful, and at some point in the night, we dock in Edfu.
