Arrival in Savannah, GA

خپور شوی: 23.09.2022

Welcome to Savannah!

After stocking up on some things at a Walmart in Dublin in the morning, we continued on to Savannah. After about 2 hours of driving, we reached the city on the East Coast without any problems.

Since we couldn't check in yet, we first explored the surroundings of Savannah. Our destination was Wormsloe Plantation, built by a colonial founder of Georgia named Noble Jones in 1736. The entrance fee of $10 per person was quickly paid, so we could drive along the beautiful 2.5 km long oak avenue with our car. We stopped at the end of the route and walked the rest of the way to the mansion ruin. It's a really beautiful area that we can recommend to everyone.

Next, we went to Bonaventure Cemetery, an old cemetery where the first burials took place in 1850. Equipped with a great map that we received on site from 2 very friendly staff members, we explored the old burial site. It was noticeable how many of the buried there had a German name. By the way, the cemetery directly borders the Wilmington River, which we saw for the first time.

It was already past 3 pm, so we could check into our accommodation for the next 3 days. Since it had been oppressively hot all day with an humidity of almost 90%, the shower felt really refreshing. Now we were ready to explore the Historic District along the Savannah River, right next to our accommodation. It's a real paradise, especially for seafood lovers. After a short culinary break, we continued to the goal of the evening, O'Connell's Pub on Drayton Street. A small, quaint place that wasn't very busy, but was occasionally visited by a bachelor party. So we got into conversation with many people. At this point, greetings to Sarah-Ann, Erin, and Julien, the emigrated Frenchman. We enjoyed emptying one glass after another before a look at the clock surprised us a bit: it was already past 2 am... To our surprise, we discovered a secret cellar vault in the pub before we finally made our way home, which seemed much longer than the way there...

All in all, it was a successful arrival in Savannah!

Best regards,

Steffi and Stefan
