Aoraki/Mount Cook, Hooker Valley

خپور شوی: 09.01.2024

At sunset yesterday the mountain was briefly pink, but we didn't manage to take a photo - seeing it was enough, there were no stars and it was cloudy.

After breakfast we just drove the last bit back into the National Park and leisurely walked the Kea Point Track and E immediately took her nap. I suggested to Benny if he wanted to run the Sealy Tarns Track, which has over 2000 steps and isn't for me. It's called the 'Stairway to Heaven', B likes to challenge himself. After the rest of the pizza he left and I went to the DOC campground with E and played. It is the best equipped so far, with a sink for washing up and proper toilets.

In the afternoon we walked the Hooker Valley Track, which was very flat and beautiful and led to Hooker Lake over several suspension bridges. They wobbled quite a bit. The path was really busy, but from the first bridge onwards it was more spread out and there was less going on on the way back. An Asian woman dropped her cell phone on the bridge when the wind blew her hat off - it's probably gone :/

You had the big Mount Cook in front of you and to the left another mountain that was still half covered with ice. Then we had deliciously deserved pasta with meatballs, especially for E, who walked a whole kilometer on the way back.

At sunset, B walked alone again to the second suspension bridge, looking for the 'perfect shot' of Mount Cook.
