Today, I explored Edinburgh for a day. The city is big, but there is a lot to see in the center in a small area.
After arriving at Waverly Station, I first climbed Calton Hill to get an overview of the city. There, I found an unfinished Greek temple, which was not completed due to lack of funds, as well as an observatory under construction and the Nelson Monument. This would have improved the view even more, but I didn't want to pay for admission. On Calton Hill, I was also surprised by a slightly stronger, about 30-minute drizzle, which is why I was glad to have brought the umbrella for the first time on the big island.
Then I went back down to the city to the Melville Monument, the Scott Monument, and then to the Old Town on Castle Hill. The soundcheck for the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival was taking place in front of Edinburgh Castle, but I skipped the castle itself because I can finance two nights with the admission fee.
So I went back down to the city and instead visited the Scottish National Gallery. Right next to the gallery are the Princess Street Gardens, which are beautifully designed and maintained, and offer a fantastic view of the castle on the hill.
After that, I made my way back to Glasgow and well, apparently the weather was very good here all day... However, besides the short rain shower on Calton Hill, it was only cloudy, it could have been much worse ;-)
