Zach's uncle Jim recommended that I try some beers from the Hermit Thrush Brewery, but it's too far south in Vermont and I won't be able to make it in the remaining days. So Katie and I went to the Beverage Warehouse instead. The beer selection there was incredible! Beers from all over the US, sorted by states, many Belgian beers, and even German breweries like Weihenstephan, Schlenkerla (Heller, Bamberg), and Ayinger were represented.
Hermit Thrush Brewery - Party Guy (Parti-gyle small beer/kettle soured session ale) 3.0%
Brewed from the runoff of their sour barley wines (= 'Parti-gyle'). Strong acidity and intense flavor with a dry finish.
Hermit Thrush Brewery - Dark at 4:30 (Belgish Dark Ale/sour) 6.2%
Inspired by Trappist beers, brewed with 14 different malts, aged in red wine barrels. Very smooth, nutty, well-balanced ratio of acidity to malt, rounded off with a pleasant touch of the red wine barrel aging; a truly perfect sour beer!
Hermit Thrush Brewery - Supah Phunk (Sour Saison) 5.9%
The strong acidity slightly overshadows the subtle flavors of the saison yeast. Still an interesting beer, but a bit too sour for me.
Hermit Thrush Brewery - Po Tweet (Kettle soured pale ale with local hops) 5.2%
The pleasant acidity plays incredibly well with the fresh-fruity flavors of the pale ale. Very drinkable and a truly unique taste.
Because of a friend's birthday, we went to a restaurant called Waterworks. It was really special! Not only the good beer selection (Hill Farmstead-Edwardt (IPA) & Frost Beer Works-Lush(Double IPA)) and the beautiful ambiance, but also the beautiful water feature of the river flowing by. It used to be a mill, which was a major industry in Vermont.
