Fraser Island

Opublikowany: 19.03.2020

Thursday, 19.03.2020: We have booked a guided tour to Fraser Island. Will be picked up in the morning at the caravan park. Then onto the ferry. The crossing takes about 30 minutes. Now it's off to the 4WD bus on the island. The roads are sandy tracks, the beach (75 Mile Beach) is the highway, where 80 km/h is allowed. We drive past the Maheno Shipwreck to The Pinnacles (colored sands). We take the opportunity here for a short flight over the largest sand island in the world. After that, we have a short swimming stop at Eli Creek, unfortunately too short for us because of the flight. After lunch, we drive to Central Station. Wood was extracted here in the past and the workers lived in wooden huts. Because it was too lonely and isolated, they were allowed to bring their families. A school was built for up to 60 students. Only one original building can still be visited, but there are many information boards. We continue hiking to Wanggoolba Creek. A source springs here, the water is crystal clear. Green algae have settled at the bottom, which looks very impressive with the blue reflection from the sky. Then we continue driving to Lake Mckenzie, where we take a cool bath to finish. We have never bathed in such a clean lake with such fine white sand. The water temperature was pleasant, cooler than the Pacific Ocean. What an exciting day with many new impressions and experiences. Our tour guide was named Des, he explained the island to us in great detail, including the flora and fauna.
