2021 - Hamburg - Bad weather tip: The Dialoghaus

Opublikowany: 09.09.2021

The Dialoghaus in Hamburg offers a truly extraordinary experience. In 'Dialog in the Dark', blind or visually impaired people accompany you through absolute darkness. You are given a long cane to hold and then it begins.

Interestingly, your other senses immediately sharpen and you pay much closer attention to the sounds, and of course, your sense of touch is also stimulated.

Together in a group, you explore a home, a marketplace, and a bar, among other things. You even have to cross a street with a traffic light. However, all of this takes place indoors, in a protected atmosphere. The concept is not to expose participants to danger, but to develop understanding for blind people.

The guide also helps with this. We had Jens by our side, who was born sighted but then gradually lost his vision as a teenager. Unlike those born blind, he also knows the world of light and can therefore understand any fears and share his experiences. At the end of the tour, we sat in the bar with him for a while and had a chat over a drink.

If this experience is not enough, you can also book the 'Dialogue in Silence' in Hamburg. As you might already guess, this focuses on deafness and is also an important topic. However, we saved this tour for our next visit.

It is very important to mention that you should book the tickets in advance on the internet at

By the way, I can hardly add any photos to this report because, as you may have guessed, it was simply too dark! In any case, cameras, mobile phones, and watches with lights are not allowed during the tour and must be locked away beforehand.

Finally, here is a current tip because I just read it: On September 9, 2021, the Dialogmuseum in Frankfurt am Main will reopen after a long closure.
