Finally, I have started my volunteer project in the kindergarten - translated into Spanish as 'jardín de niños.'
Monday morning at 8:30, we set off; the kindergarten is about 30 minutes from our accommodation, but it's a lovely route through the lively downtown of Coronado. You can stop at a street corner and grab a queque - a cake for 800c (around 1.5€):)
The kindergarten has around 40-60 children, many of whom have physical and/or mental disabilities. There are many autistic children, one child has epilepsy, and among the older children, many are very inattentive (I suspect ADHD).
Overall, it's incredibly chaotic and unfortunately also very dirty there. The caregivers try their best to cater to the children, but there is little room to play, and there are far too many children in too small a space.
There is also a baby station where there are babies from 4 months to 1 year old. That's especially sweet :)
Our tasks mostly involve helping with activities, feeding the little ones during meals, and then cleaning up.
I really enjoy the work, and I'm very happy about the opportunity to be in such close contact with the children.
I also feel that my Spanish has improved a lot because I dare to speak with the children even if I make mistakes.
The second week was great, but unfortunately, I was a bit sick, so I had to skip some afternoon activities :(
But on Wednesday, I went to yoga, which was absolutely wonderful!!
Stay tuned for the weekend!!
I’m going to a big waterfall:))
Best regards
Hugs to everyone 🥰
